They say he received a very large number of shares when Apple was still just a concept and a hope, but he didn’t have enough faith in the new gadget’s future, so he sold out for pennies. Those shares today would have been worth billions. They say he has no regrets; Pahrump is a nice place to get lost. Life is simple there.

This is definitely artistic. I'm torn between wanting to laugh and wanting to curse silently over the loss of so much scrill. The only suggestion I might have would be to see how it feels to make it longer--into similar stanzas, still from the point of view of "they" in order to expand that meaning...If not, it's simple and nice already.

a true story
this comes from an offhand comment I heard. before the NYT article came out. I think I would laugh at it too. it's just a simple snapshot.
