For Elizabeth

For Elizabeth

. . .  long ago we played in your parents' garden

and in sixth grade...

tragedy reworked in our novice hands....

Our play, Jomeo and Ruliet comes to mind... (what fun!)

... we had the entire class cast in our spell...

Now, years later . . . I watch you lead a full college of women...

... as I muster the courage to get out of  bed...

and toil in my garden choked with weeds.

Angelique -- Powerful, makes this reader want to know more... well done. And hugs to you.

Beautiful

It's really elegant the way you describe these memories as they transcend into the present. Very well written.

Interesting, definitely

I must say that the last line intrigued me, because I was expecting more of the same sentimental nature. I think it's good that you catch the reader off guard in this way, because it makes the audience realize how your friend (Elizabeth, I'm guessing), continued her use of childlike imagination, while you ascended to the humble rank of gardner, like her parents.

I wonder if it might be possible to illustrate further how the influence of drama has shaped your life, as well as hers.
