Vintage 70s Girl

Poetry and Prose from personal experiences.

The Color Red

70sgirl

I don't believe in painted red nails

she once said.

or rouge or matt lipstick.

It doesn't play well.

It's cheap in a way.  She said.

And it hurts my image. Okay, red nail polish on my toes during winter

might work,  and rouge as a contour down my neck might do --

But matt lipstick! Please!

Her lips glistened as she hesitated, biting the corner of her mouth...

All I really need is a little lip balm with honey ----

and I remember her

pouting with her lips

grinning

laughing

and turning to kiss me

reaching with her kisses

...

with honey on her lips ...

always with a smile.

Painted ladies are drama without passion she once said.

Laughing now...

in reverie..

I really must agree.

I love the vividness of this poem and I'm a sucker for a narrative poem too. This is a beautifully captured moment that tells a thousand stories, stimulates the imagination of the reader, and makes me want to know more about the woman with honey on her lips.
